Guts UK

Tone of Voice Legacy

Guts UK is probably the loveliest charity in the UK, and that’s the way they like it.

Because when you’re dealing with big, scary topics like pancreatic cancer, and embarrassing taboos like poo, well, you need a lot of warmth.

The Challenge

Guts UK had a strong tone of voice, but they faced three major challenges. Their unique TOV lived only in the minds of their CEO and Comms Manager, both of whom were leaving the charity. They urgently needed a written TOV and a complete messaging toolkit for future staff training. Additionally, with frequent press opportunities, the team needed more confidence in delivering their messaging without their key leaders.

The Approach

  1. Tone of Voice Document

  2. Messaging Toolkit

  3. TOV Legacy Video with Jenny and Julie

  4. Language Style Guide for Journalists

  5. “PR Messaging” Confidence Building Sessions

The Outcomes

“Gabby was the perfect external help and guidance during a time of change for Guts UK charity. With key members of staff leaving, we were worried about the brand and tone of voice leaving with them, so Gabby helped us put all our hard work on paper for the new team.

It was clear how much time Gabby had spent immersing herself into our brand, messaging and our work before the workshops. It was like she'd worked alongside us for months. I couldn't recommend Gabby enough - and hope to cross paths with her again!”

Jenny Seed, Former Communications and Fundraising Manager, Guts UK

“The tone of voice piece Gabby did for Guts UK was superb and added huge value. As well as a revelatory and thoroughly enjoyable experience for all involved.

Hers are safe, insightful, guiding hands and are highly recommended.”

Julie Harrington, Former CEO, Guts UK
